The days that followed blurred into a secret world that belonged only to Kene and me. Raymond’s frequent travels became our greatest ally. Every time he left the house, the tension between us would rise again, pulling us toward each other like magnets.

I tried to fight it at first. I would wake up each morning promising myself that today would be different. I would be the faithful wife I was raised to be. But the moment Kene smiled at me, or brushed past me in the hallway, all my resolve would melt away. The memory of his touch had awakened something in me that refused to go back to sleep.

One warm afternoon, while the staff were on their break, Kene found me in the upstairs sitting room. Without a word, he pulled me into his arms and kissed me with a hunger that left me dizzy. We moved to the bedroom — not the one I shared with Raymond, but the guest room where he was staying. What happened between us that afternoon was even more intense than the first time. His hands explored me with patience and skill, drawing out feelings I never knew my body could experience. I felt cherished, desired, and completely alive in his arms.

Afterwards, as we lay tangled in the sheets, Kene traced gentle patterns on my shoulder.

“I’ve never felt this way about anyone,” he confessed. “Not like this.”

I turned to look at him, my fingers brushing his chest. “This is dangerous, Kene. If Raymond ever finds out…”

He silenced me with a soft kiss. “I know. But I can’t stay away from you. You’ve become my weakness, Naza.”

Those words both scared and thrilled me. I was becoming addicted to him — to the way he made me feel, to the passion he brought into my once-empty life. We began taking more risks. Stolen kisses in the kitchen when the cook stepped out. Quiet moments in the garden at night. Even a daring encounter in the car when we went out for groceries together.

But the guilt never fully left me. Sometimes, when I was alone, I would cry silently, asking myself how I had become this woman — sneaking around with my husband’s own brother. Yet every time Kene touched me, the guilt would fade into the background, replaced by overwhelming pleasure and connection.

One evening, Raymond returned home earlier than expected. Kene and I had just finished a passionate moment in the guest room and were still trying to compose ourselves. We heard Raymond’s voice downstairs and quickly straightened our clothes. My heart pounded with fear as I rushed down to greet him.

“You look flushed,” Raymond said when he saw me. “Are you feeling okay?”

“I’m fine,” I replied, forcing a smile. “Just came from the garden.”

Kene appeared moments later, looking perfectly calm. The two brothers hugged and began talking about business. I watched them, my stomach twisting with guilt. How could I look at my husband while carrying such a heavy secret?

That night, as Raymond slept beside me, I lay awake staring at the ceiling. My body still carried the memory of Kene’s touch. The contrast between the two brothers was now painfully clear. One gave me status and security. The other gave me passion and emotional fulfillment.

The addiction was growing stronger.

A few days later, during another of Raymond’s absences, Kene and I spent an entire evening together. We talked deeply about our feelings, our fears, and what this relationship meant to us. For the first time, I admitted to him how neglected I had felt in my marriage.

“You deserve to be loved properly,” Kene told me, holding me close. “You deserve to feel this every day.”

His words made tears come to my eyes. In his arms, I felt seen. I felt wanted. And I was falling deeper.

But outside our secret world, small signs of danger were beginning to appear. One of the maids started giving me knowing looks. Aunty Chioma, Raymond’s elder sister who lived nearby, visited unexpectedly and commented on how “glowing” I looked lately.

The walls were slowly closing in.

Yet, even with the growing risk, I could not bring myself to stop. Every moment with Kene felt like a drug I could no longer live without.
