The Knock

My eyes stayed fixed on the door.

I didn’t blink.

Didn’t move.

Didn’t even breathe properly.

“Someone is coming.”

That message was still sitting on my phone like a threat.

“Omo… who is coming?”

No answer.

No explanation.

Just fear.

I moved slowly toward the bag.

Opened it.

This time, no hesitation.

I picked the gun.

My hand was shaking, but I held it tighter.

Because at that moment…

I didn’t know who I was expecting.

Or what they wanted.

Then—

KNOCK.

My heart jumped.

Loud.

Sharp.

Not gentle.

I froze.

Every part of my body went still.

Another knock.

This time slower.

Heavier.

KNOCK.

KNOCK.

“Omo…”

I swallowed hard.

My throat dry.

My mind racing.

Whoever was outside…

Was not guessing.

They knew I was inside.

“Who is there?” I asked.

My voice came out lower than I expected.

No response.

Just silence.

Then—

The knob moved.

Slightly.

My heart stopped.

Because I locked that door.

I was sure of it.

The knob moved again.

Slow.

Testing.

I raised the gun slightly.

My hand shaking badly now.

“This is not me… this is not me…”

I whispered under my breath.

Then a voice came from outside.

Soft.

But clear.

“Guy… open door.”

I froze.

That voice…

I knew it.

“Na me, Tobi.”

My chest tightened.

Tobi??

My guy??

“What are you doing here?” I asked immediately.

No answer.

Just—

“Guy, open door.”

Something was off.

Very off.

Tobi no dey talk like this.

Not like this.

Not this serious.

“How you take know say I dey house?” I asked.

Silence.

Then—

“Guy, I say open door.”

This time…

The tone changed.

Less friendly.

More… forceful.

My grip on the gun tightened.

Because now…

I understood something.

This might not be Tobi.

Or…

If it is…

Something is wrong.

My phone buzzed.

I didn’t even look away from the door.

I just unlocked it and checked.

Message.

Unknown number.

“Don’t open it.”

My heart skipped.

Another message came in immediately.

“He’s not alone.”

My entire body went cold.

Outside, Tobi knocked again.

Louder now.

“Guy! Wetin dey do you?? Open this door!”

I stepped back slowly.

Gun still in my hand.

Sweat forming on my forehead.

Because now…

Everything was clear.

Too clear.

This was not coincidence.

This was not normal.

“Guy, if you no open this door now—”

He stopped.

Silence.

Then I heard it.

Another voice.

Low.

Whispering.

I couldn’t hear the words.

But I heard enough.

My heart started pounding hard.

Because that confirmed it.

He’s not alone.

I moved quietly to the window.

Pulled the curtain slightly.

Looked outside.

And froze.

Two men.

Standing beside the building.

Looking up.

Directly at my window.

Not moving.

Not hiding.

Just waiting.

“Omo…”

My hand tightened around the gun.

Because now…

I understood the situation fully.

This was not just pressure anymore.

This was a test.

Inside the house.

Outside the house.

Everywhere.

My phone buzzed again.

I checked it.

“Don’t panic.”

Another message.

“You’re in control.”

I almost laughed.

Control??

In this situation??

Then the final message came in.

And this one…

Changed everything.

“If they enter…”

Pause.

“Use the gun.”

My breath stopped.

I looked at the door.

Looked at the gun in my hand.

Then back at the door again.

Because now…

The situation had shifted completely.

This was no longer about money.

Or delivery.

Or following instructions.

This was about something else.

Something darker.

Something final.

And one wrong move…

Could destroy everything.

To be continued…

You're almost done!
