The Redemption Gambit
The news of the pregnancy spread faster than the leaked chats.
Suddenly, Ezi became the “miracle wife” in some church circles. Some people were calling it a sign that the prophecy had been broken. Others said it was the devil trying to tie Obi down.
But Sister Divine was not a woman who surrendered easily.
Two days later, a new prophecy dropped during a mid-week service.
This time it was more direct.
“The Lord says the child in the womb is under attack by marine spirits,” Sister Divine declared loudly. “The mother must submit completely to her husband’s spiritual covering, or the baby will not see the light of day. The man must also separate from the evil influence until full deliverance is done.”
The message was clear: Ezi must step back and let Obi “lead spiritually” — which meant letting Sister Divine stay in the picture.
Obi started pressuring her the same night.
“Babe, you heard the prophecy. For the sake of our child, let’s follow the instruction. I will still come home, but I need to keep seeing her for prayers.”
Ezi looked at him like he had grown two heads.
“You want me to share you with her while I’m carrying your baby?”
“It’s not sharing. It’s spiritual.”
The fight that night was brutal. Voices were raised. Old wounds were opened. Obi slept in the guest room.
The tension peaked at the big family meeting held at Mama Nneka’s house on Saturday.
Everyone was present — Ezi’s side, Obi’s side, church elders, even one of Sister Divine’s loyal assistants.
The pressure on Ezi was heavy.
“Accept the second wife arrangement,” one of Obi’s uncles said. “Many big men in Lagos do it. She will be outside. You remain the main wife.”
Her own mother, still weak from the hospital, added, “My daughter, don’t be stubborn. Think of the child.”
Ezi stood up slowly, her hand protectively on her belly.
Then she played her card.
She brought out her phone and played one of the voice notes Ifeoma had given her — Sister Divine clearly telling a married man how she would “replace his useless wife” and become the new queen.
The room went silent.
Obi’s face fell.
But Sister Divine’s assistant quickly countered: “This is edited! Fake news! The devil is fighting the anointed!”
Chaos erupted.
Shouting. Accusations. Some family members taking sides. Phones recording everything.
In the middle of the madness, Ezi looked at Obi — really looked at him.
This was the moment.
She could fight dirty. Release all the evidence. Destroy Sister Divine publicly. Keep her husband by force.
Or she could choose another path.
Obi moved closer to her, voice low.
“Ezi, please. I was confused. But this baby… I want to come back fully. No more prophetess. Let’s start again.”
Everyone waited for her answer.
Ezi took a deep breath, her heart beating for two.
To be continued…
