Cracks in the Wall

4 min read Jul 14, 2026 Marriage & Relationship Drama

The weight of our secret was beginning to show. Even though Kene and I tried to be extremely careful, small cracks were appearing in our carefully built wall. The passion we shared had become addictive, but it was also making us careless.

Raymond returned from his trip in a strange mood. He was more observant than usual, watching me closely during dinner. At one point, he commented that I seemed distracted lately. I laughed it off and said I was just thinking about starting a small business. He accepted the explanation, but I could tell he was not completely convinced.

Kene and I reduced our meetings, but the longing only grew stronger. We resorted to late-night text messages and quick stolen moments when the house was quiet. One night, after Raymond had fallen asleep, I slipped downstairs to the guest room. What was supposed to be a short visit turned into another passionate encounter. Kene’s touch was as tender and intense as always, making me forget everything else for those precious minutes.

The next morning, one of the younger maids gave me a strange look when she saw me coming from the direction of the guest wing. I pretended not to notice, but fear settled in my stomach.

Aunty Chioma’s visits became more frequent. During one of them, she pulled me aside.

“My dear, is there something going on between you and Kene?” she asked directly.

My heart almost stopped. “Of course not, Aunty. He is my husband’s brother.”

She studied my face for a long time. “Be careful, Naza. Family matters like this never end well. People are already talking.”

Her warning shook me deeply. That evening, I told Kene we needed to slow down. He agreed, but when we found ourselves alone in the study later that night, our resolve crumbled again. The kiss we shared was desperate and full of pent-up emotion. His hands moved over me with familiar warmth, reminding me why it was so hard to stay away.

But this time, we were almost caught.

Raymond came home earlier than expected and called out my name from the hallway. We barely had time to separate. I quickly adjusted my dress and stepped out of the study, trying to look normal. Kene followed a few minutes later, pretending he had been looking for a book.

Raymond looked at both of us suspiciously but said nothing.

That night, the tension in the house was thick. Raymond was quiet during dinner. He kept glancing between Kene and me. After dinner, he asked me to join him in our bedroom.

“Is everything okay between you and my brother?” he asked, his voice unusually serious.

My heart pounded. “Yes, why do you ask?”

He shrugged. “Just a feeling. You two seem… close.”

I assured him nothing was wrong, but I could tell he was not fully satisfied. After he fell asleep, I lay awake beside him, tears silently rolling down my cheeks. The guilt was becoming heavier than the pleasure.

The following day, Kene and I had a serious conversation in the garden when no one was around.

“We have to stop,” I told him, even though it hurt to say the words. “This is becoming too dangerous. I can’t lose everything.”

Kene looked pained. “I know. But I don’t know how to stay away from you anymore, Naza. You’ve become part of me.”

We held each other tightly, knowing that our secret was on the verge of breaking open. The passion we shared had grown into something deeper — real emotions were now involved, making everything more complicated.

Later that evening, Raymond received a phone call. From the way he spoke, I could tell it was serious. When he finished, he looked at me with an expression I had never seen before.

“Someone just told me something very disturbing,” he said slowly. “About you and Kene.”

My blood ran cold.
