Dangerous Risks

4 min read Jul 14, 2026 Marriage & Relationship Drama

Raymond’s words hung in the air like a dark cloud. My heart was beating so fast I felt dizzy. I tried to keep my face calm as I asked him what he meant.

“Someone called me today,” he said, watching my reaction carefully. “They said they saw you and Kene together in ways that are not appropriate for a wife and her brother-in-law.”

I felt the ground shift beneath my feet. I denied it immediately, my voice shaking slightly. I told him people were just jealous and spreading rumours. Kene, who had walked into the room during the conversation, also denied everything smoothly. He reminded Raymond how much he respected our marriage.

Raymond seemed to accept our explanation for now, but the suspicion in his eyes remained. The atmosphere in the house became tense. We all moved carefully around each other.

That night, Kene and I did not meet. I stayed in my bedroom, filled with fear and regret. But the next afternoon, when Raymond left for an emergency meeting, the pull between us became too strong to resist. We met in the guest room for a short but intense moment. The fear of being caught only seemed to heighten our emotions. Kene held me like I was the most precious thing in his life, his touch full of both passion and desperation.

Afterwards, as we tried to steady our breathing, Kene whispered, “I can’t lose you, Naza.”

His words broke something inside me. I was deeply in love with him now, but I was also terrified of the destruction we were causing.

The risks continued to grow. Aunty Chioma visited again and openly warned me in front of Kene. She said the family was beginning to talk. One of the drivers also started giving us strange looks. The walls were closing in faster than we expected.

In the middle of all this pressure, Kene and I had one of our most emotional conversations. We talked about the future, about what we really wanted, and about how impossible our situation was. The conversation ended with us holding each other tightly, our bodies seeking comfort in the only way we knew.

But our luck was running out.

Two days later, Raymond came home unexpectedly in the afternoon. Kene and I were in the garden, sharing a private moment. We were so lost in each other that we didn’t hear the car enter the compound. When Raymond walked into the garden, he saw us standing very close, Kene’s hand gently touching my arm.

The look on his face was one of shock, pain, and growing anger.

“What is going on here?” he demanded.

We quickly moved apart. I tried to explain, but the words felt weak even to my own ears. Kene tried to calm his brother down, but the damage had been done. Raymond ordered Kene to pack his things and leave the house immediately.

That night, the house was silent and heavy. Raymond refused to speak to me. He slept in the guest room, leaving me alone with my thoughts and tears. I felt devastated. The beautiful secret world I had built with Kene was crumbling right before my eyes.

The next morning, Kene left the house. Before he went, he found a private moment to speak to me.

“This is not the end, Naza,” he said quietly. “I will find a way for us to be together. I promise.”

His words gave me a small hope, but they also filled me with even more fear. Raymond was a powerful man. If he decided to dig deeper, our secret could destroy both of us.

For the first time since this affair began, I truly understood the cost of my first mistake.
