The Delivery

The sun was already hot.

Typical Lagos morning.

But somehow…

I still felt cold.

I stepped out of the compound slowly, trying to act normal.

Like nothing was wrong.

Like I wasn’t carrying something that could destroy my life.

“Omo… just go and come back,” I whispered to myself.

Simple.

In and out.

No drama.

No mistakes.

As I reached the junction, I stopped.

Looked around.

That black car was gone.

No sign of it.

No sign of the man.

But that didn’t mean anything.

Because now…

I knew something for sure:

Even when I don’t see them… they are watching.

I flagged a bike.

“Boss, where you dey go?” the rider asked.

I hesitated for a second.

Then mentioned the location.

He looked at me briefly.

Like he wanted to ask something.

But didn’t.

“Enter.”

The ride was quiet.

Too quiet.

The wind was hitting my face, but it didn’t calm me.

If anything…

It made my thoughts louder.

Different questions kept running through my head:

What’s inside this USB?

Who am I delivering it to?

What happens after this?

And the biggest one—

What if I don’t come back?

We entered the area.

And immediately…

The vibe changed.

You know that kind of place where:

  • People look at you too long
  • Nobody smiles
  • Everything feels… off

Yeah.

That kind of place.

Even the bike man slowed down.

“Na here?” he asked.

“Yeah,” I said quietly.

I got down.

Paid him.

He didn’t even wait.

He left immediately.

Like he didn’t want to stay one extra second.

That alone made my chest tight.

I stood there.

Looking around.

Old buildings.

Quiet streets.

A few men sitting outside, watching everything.

Watching me.

“Omo…”

I swallowed.

Checked the address again.

Same place.

No mistake.

The building was in front of me.

Two floors.

Paint peeling.

Gate slightly open.

No signboard.

Nothing.

Just… there.

Waiting.

I took a deep breath.

And walked in.

The compound was even quieter.

No sound.

No movement.

Just silence.

As I approached the door…

It opened.

By itself.

I froze.

I didn’t touch it.

Nobody touched it.

But it opened.

Slowly.

My heart started beating fast.

“This is not normal.”

But I was already here.

No going back now.

I stepped inside.

Dark.

Cool.

The kind of cool that doesn’t feel normal.

Then—

“You’re late.”

I spun around.

A man was standing at the corner.

I didn’t even hear him enter.

Black shirt.

Calm face.

But his eyes…

His eyes were not normal.

I swallowed.

“I’m not late. It’s not even—”

“Give it to me.”

He cut me off.

Straight.

No emotion.

My hand moved slowly into my pocket.

I brought out the USB.

Held it for a second.

Because something inside me was screaming:

“Don’t do it.”

But my body didn’t listen.

I stretched my hand.

He collected it.

Just like that.

For a few seconds…

Nothing happened.

He just stood there.

Looking at it.

Then he nodded.

Like something had been confirmed.

“Good,” he said quietly.

Then he looked at me.

Properly this time.

And what he said next…

Made my stomach drop.

“You don’t even know what you just delivered… do you?”

My throat went dry.

“No…”

A faint smile appeared on his face.

Not friendly.

Not normal.

Just… wrong.

He stepped closer.

Lowered his voice.

“People have died because of this.”

My chest tightened instantly.

“What?”

Before I could process it—

He stepped back.

Like nothing happened.

Like he didn’t just say something crazy.

Then he pointed toward the door.

“You can go.”

That’s it.

No explanation.

No questions.

Nothing.

I didn’t wait.

I turned immediately and walked out.

Fast.

My heart still racing.

My head spinning.

As I stepped outside…

My phone buzzed.

I checked it immediately.

Message.

Unknown number.

“Well done.”

Another one entered.

“You’re learning.”

My hands clenched.

Learning??

Learning what??

Then the last message came in.

And this one…

Made me stop walking completely.

“Get ready.”

Pause.

Another message.

“The next one is bigger.”

I stood there.

In the middle of the street.

Breathing slowly.

Trying to process everything.

Because one thing was clear now:

This was not ending anytime soon.

And somehow…

It was getting worse.
